The demand lor dairy stock for the coming season promises to be as brisk as ever. At the sale of Messrs Duggan’s stock held at Tataraimaka on Wednesday Mr Newton King, competition .was very keen. Cows in milk brought up to £lO, the herd' of 68 cows averaging £6. Considering the time of year, the figure for so large a herd of cows is probably a record.

The first day of Messrs Gillies and Nalder’s autumn horse fair took place yesterday, when there was- a .good attendance of buyers.. Bidding was spirited, and there was a t -good" demand for useful horses. The 'follovvihg prices were realised: Draughts ’ (medium unbroken) £lB to £25, heavy draughts from 3yrs to 4yrs made from £25 to £42 10s, the last-mentioned price being given for two horses bred by Air Oughton by his stallion Pride of Windermere, unbroken light horses from £4 to £l2. The sale is proceeding this afternoon. Saddle and harness horses are being offered. Young harness horses realised from £l2 to £lB. The Auckland branch of the Liberal and Labor Federation of New Zealand has resolved to urge upon the Government the desirability of amending the Old Age Pensions Act in the direction of making the penalty for a first offence oi drunkenness the withdrawal of the pension for a period not exceeding six months; for the second offence, the withdrawal of the pension for a period not exceeding two years, and for a third offence the cancellation of the pension for a period of five years.
