CROWN LAND THROWN OPEN.

AUCKLAND, April 9

Some 14,411 acres of Crown lands were thrown open yesterday for selection during April, the time for receiving applications closing on the 29th inst. A ballot of sections applied for by more than' two persons will be held on Bth May. Of the total amount, 13,814 acres are being opened on the optional scheme and 596 acres on the renewable lease tenure. All the land is described as second-class, with the exception of the Great Barrier Island and another in Tauranga county, which are scheduled as third-class.
