HOSPITAL BOARD AND WATER CHARGES.

♦ — ; At Wednesday's meeting of the Hawera Borough Council, the following letter was received from ihe Secretary of the Hawera Hospital and Charitable Aid. Board with reference to the Council V decision to increase ihe charge for water from 6d to Is 3d pox 1000 gallons: "I was imsfoucted to irefer your letter back to the Council for their consideration, as x the Hospital Board think the charge out of all reason." Apropos the foregoing, the Town Clerk had written to a number of Councils asking what- their water charges for Hospital Boards were, and appended are the replies -received : — Stratford Borough Council said their' annual charge was £6 (by arrangement), this being It little less than) the usual charge. ■ New Plymouth gave their charge as £20 (arranged). Palmensfcon North intimated that, their hospital was supplied without fee, and no change was made for use of the 'drains. Napier wrote that tHe Napier institution^did not pay rates, and were, charged Is 3d per 1000 gallons per meter. Wellington City Council said they charged the Board for extraordinary supply by meter at 9d per 1000 gallonß. That was the charge to all users of water, by meter, and no reduction was mode to the Hospital, which was efcempt from rates. Or- Campbell moved, That no action oft taken.
