FIRE.
[fbess association.] CAMBRIDGE, April 8.
A' fire last night totally destroyed a building of 14 rooms, formerly a hotel, but since used as a boarding-house, owned by' Mrs Keesing, of Auckland, and Occupied by W. McLean. A number of boarders lost everything. The inmates were absent «t the time of the •utbreak.
ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES
WELLINGTON, April 7. During the year ended 31st March, the excess in the number of persons who arrived in Wellington direct from over-sea ports over those who have left Wellington direct for oversea ports was 4&77. The number of arrivals for that period was 17,177, while the departures were 13,300. During the year the heaviest month for arrivals was January last, when 2565 persons landed.. Last month 1650 persons left the Dominion at Wellington, this being the highest nHmber for the year in any one month.
