NELSON, April 8. | At a meeting of shopkeepers opposed v to the Saturday half-holiday replies '
•were received from the Minister for .Labor that no alteration in the day could be made till next year. After a long discussion the following motion was carried by 18 to 2, That this meet-
ing agrees, owing to the Government
refusing the request of the shopkeepers to alter the statutory half-holiday to Wednesday, that a thorough canvass
of the town be made for the signatures
of shopkeepers willing to close on Wed- - nesday and open on Saturday, and if ; "the majority agree, the alteration to take place from the 22nd April. The object is to test the law.
