A MYSTERIOUS VESSEL.

NELSON, April 8.

A large vessel, apparently somewhat dismasted and with smoke issuing, was ■seen to pass towards Mackay's Bluff i;his morning. Later the smoke appeared to cease. This is supposed to be the same vessel reported to be on fire at Tonga Island (not off Takaka) yes.terday. Mr Price, agent for the Union 'Company, has instructed the captain of the Arahura to* communicate with her if possible, and wire from Cable Bay if assistance is needed. The behaviour •of the vessel is mysterious if she is not <on fire, but she is too far off for particulars.
