At least four of the lonic's last, batch of immigrants have come to the, Hawera district, and have already secured employment. Mr W. M. Last evening a large number of friends met at -Mir' Milne's residenoe, Victoria, street, to spend a farewell evening tendered to Mr Aindrew Morrison, who for some time has been a resident in Hawera and Is leaving to take up a situation in Wanganui, During the evening Mr. Milne, in the course of & happy speecfi, mentioned the sterling quality of Mr Morrison's character and also his great ability as a singer. Mr T. J. Hurxell, on behalf of friends present and absent, made a presentation of a handsome oak silver-mounted salad bowl to Mr Morrison, who suitably replied. After the New Year Mr Newton King will hold fortnightly sales r.t Stony River yards in order to cppe with increasuig entries. Hawera County Council advertises for information, about two lost horses. Barmby and Cole will sell poultry, produce, fruit, etc., ait their Regent street mart to-morrow at 1 p.m. The N.Z. Loan amd Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., will hold their monthly horse fair et Hawera on Saturday, December 14. Particulars are advertised. The firm will sell 450 head of cattle at their Hawera yards on Thursday next.
