Very few good catches are being reported by anglers just now, but this ■week Mr W. J. Bell secured 10 fish averaging lilbs in the Kaupokonui stream.

An advertisement in this issue announces that Sunday school anniversar~ services at the Methodist Church on "Sunday next will be conducted by Rev. O. Porter, formerly of Hawera. Special music will be given by the children and choir. A public meeting ■ is to be held on Monday evening, when musical, items, addresses and reports, ■etc., will be given. Mr A. C. Orr, of Christchurch, who lias returned from America, says he had interviews with President Roosevelt and Mr J. D. Rockefeller, the richest man in the world. He says the latter, if "he lives for another, twelve years, will be the first billionaire man the world has ever seen. There was nothing in his appearance or conversation to Ttnfficate the fact. According to a report received at Melbourne ifrom San Francisco by tne "Union liner Moana, a singular adventure befell the Oceanic Steamship Company's steamer Mariposa (says the Argus). The Mariposa, which uses oil as fuel instead of coal, ran short ot this commodity whilst on a voyage from Tahiti. It was consequently iound necessary to despatch a boat's crew from the vessel to Monterey, Cablorxua, a distance of 87 miles, for the assistance of a tug. The boat's crew, in •charge of Chief Officer Watson, reached these in safety after a trying trap.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., will sell 500 head of cattle at their Eltham yards on Tuesday, Deoember 10.
