The hospital was in grave danger oi the fire. For some time a force of artillery quenohed the burning particlas as they fell on the buildinga At one time the vandow-screens of the operating theatre were on fire. An amended estimate of the loss puts the damage at- apfKroxilmately £100,000
The Federal Government had no insurance on their buildings^
