Lord Erskine is a very superior well bred bay horse of the very best quality and true type of the Clydesdale bTeed standing 16 hands 3£ inches high. He h a very massive horse, with clean flat bones strong well-formed joints, beautiful lonj silky hair, and grandly-formed round fee of good quality, with fine broad hoo heads. He has a beautiful head, and eyei characteristic of courage and endurance a good neck amd crest, well-sprung Tibs remarkably good loins, and strong short I coupled back. His action, botih at th< walk and the trot, is all that can' be de sired. Lord Erskine was bred by J. S. Holmes of A-wamoa, Oamaru, and is by the im ported sire Sandy Erskine, who is thk sire of the well-known champion mar< Lady Erskine — owned by A. Alexander Esq., Normonby, Taranaki— <bhe dam oi the champion two-year-old colt Marcellus recently sold at the record price of 75( guineas. Lord Erskine's dam, Pearl 11., is bj j the famous sire Crown Prince, grand dam Sapphire, dam of Accountant, Auditor, and other good horses and winners oi numerous first prizes; this mare has omlj been beaten by her stable companion's great grand dam Pearl, a mare specially selected by the late J. B. Blair and imported on account of the late Hon. Matthew Holmes. In 1906 Lord Erskine gained following awards : — At Ashburton, first and champion ; at International Show, Christohurch, second prize and reserve champion, also first prize for best stallion im the walking competition (beating the champion stallion Pride of Newton), and first prize for Lord Rothschild's silver bowl for the best colonial-bTed stallion (Shire or Clydesdale) by an imported sire, thus gaining the highest number of awards at the show. Lord Erskine was purchased in April, 1907, at a cost of 80^ guineas by Mr F. A. Bremer, of Okciawa, Taranaki, from Mr Robt. Clarke, Roseneath Stud, Ashbuirtoin. Terms : £8 Bs.
