£405 PAID FOR A NOVEL RESIDENCE.
Two lighthouses on Poxtiand Biil were offered for sale a* Portland.
Aft«r desultory bidding the higher lighthouse, which stands on about half an acre of land, "wa& purchased by Mr M. W. Sparkman, of Rroughton,' Gifford, Wiltshire for £405. Tb& lower lighthouse did not find a purchaser., the reserve of £400 not being reached.
lt will be remembered that last year St.' Helen's Fort, one of the chain of sea fortifications which guard the entrance to Portsmouth harboT and Spithead anchorage, was advertised as to let.
