RIVERLEA.
(From a Correspondent.) The recent heavy downpour has just about extinguished the fires, though a good many logs are stall smouldering. The last damage done was at Mr T. Smith's last Saturday night, when a stack of oats was burned.
By the way, Mr Edfittor, I have been getting into trouble for writing that the gale was from the north-wost, but I would almost bet a shilling to- a button off a pair of dungarees that I had written "nor - easier." If sp pOease correct it. [We regret that in ewlar it was printed nor'west.] I was sorry on reading through what I had written on Saturday night to notice that I omitted to mention that it was Messrs G. Richardson and J. Itttzgoxald who removed Mr Valintine and family from their dangerous position.
The sports which are to come off on Monday promise to be a goKxub suooeos, prcvided the weather is good. There are a large number of entries, and I uridersfoamd that rri|ost of the nominators intend to start.
