TEACHERS' SALARIES.
ANOMALIES OF tMe SYSTEM.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION.!
AUCKLAND, March 20.
At a meeting of the Board of Education, to-day the old question of payment of teacher®' salaries on the basis of average attendance came up again for discussion, being brought under notice by a letter from the Assistant Masters' Association, in which the Association requested the Board, to use its influence to obtain abolition of payment by attendance.
It was agreed that the principle -was wrong from varioniE points of view. One member saad that ha some cases, though no credit was due to the teachers, the average attendance had gone away up. Perhaps a *Bsfcrict was developmg rapidly or something, and perhaps teachers rose from £250 a year to £400 a year, whereas if it had been a £400 appointment 1 iin the first place,, •the Board would have been able to appoint a teacher with better qualifications. It> was decided that the reeahitian' be sent to the MkrisfceT, and his attention called to anomalies.
