IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.
BRITISH INDIANS IN THE TRANS-
VAAL.
[PBESS ASSOCIATION. I (Received March 21, 9 a.m.)
LONDON, March 20.
Lord Amptihill asked if the Imperial Conference would discuss time, question of the disabilities of British Indians and their future treatment by the colonies Lard Elgin said that while it was the Govommert'o duty to show they were, natilonal protectors, yet they were bound to consudier the self -governed 1 colonies and not inflame the present, strong feeling. Nevertheless, he hoped the subject would be discussed, at any rate at a subordinate
inference.
Lord Lansdowne considered the queetion most difficult owing to two ojoflicting^currents of opinions. Hie hoped care would be taken to secure proper treatment for IndEan subjects- to prevent their humiliation or being deprived of their righto. He added that for some reasons it would be bette.' for the subject not to be officially presented for the ctonsideration of the Conference.
