He wondered if they could raise the required amount on the debenture system. Moved that letter be (received. (Gapper —Betts.) Dr Makgill, of the Health Department, wrote: lam in receipt of yours of the 28tn imst. conveying the resolution of the Board demanding flush tanks fox the hotel drain. I would point out that the Health Department has no power to enforce the demands of the Board, which must serve notice under section 74 of the "Public Health Act, 1900," to the owner and oconpier if the drain is a nuisance, or the Board may under section 51 itself enter on the premises amd do any work necessary for the Temedying of the defect. I would draw attention to section 50, making it the duty of the local authority to see that drains are kept so as not to be a nniisaace or injuriou® to health. Inspector Gardiner will give any advice on the miat'ter:>' ■ ' '

The Chairman said it seemed as if the Department were trying to shirk the matter. It was decided that <fcihe letter be received iamd held over till next meeting. Was ' the Eltham County Council aware of this 1 ? The site was lyißg idle, and he thought the Boardi should 1 take steps to have aAtmie vested in this Board. The Chairman understood that the Eltham County Council knew of the fact that the reserve was not vested in this Board. Perhaps it would be as well to write to the Couocil and ask if they would have any objection to pass the pound reserve ito this Board.
