Hanry Maiques and Alfred Boundy pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court to-day to afcea'ing 55 sides of leather after a fiie at the Woolston tannery on December 1, and wene committed for sentence. Edgar Bevis Mead admitted having received the leather knowing it to have been stolon, and was aUso committed for sentence A iran named Arthur Sparrow, upon severall charges of petty thefts at the Exhibition., was fined 40s on each charge.

The Judge concurred with the jury, and deferred soater-ce. The tr'al of WiMdain Btettany, the younger, charged wtith converting to his own use a sum of £270 belonging to foe estate of the late William W'lkie, of which accused was a trustee, has commenced and continues to morrow.

In the Supreme Court John W. Hawkes was convicted of indecent assault on a girl under eight years of age, but was admitted to probation for 12 months on the ground of 36 years' blameless residence. The Judge- remarked that the offence was nothing more than one of impropriety, and he intimated that offences against women and cJiildren would be closely watched and severely dealt with.
