A STRUGGLE ON THE ICE.

For six hours a cheesemonger named Mafcfchiars Eiband fought for his life between Seeweiler and Seeg, in Bavaria. Ho was returning hkiroe about 4 o'clock in the afternoon of December 22, when he was overtaken by a blinding snowstorm. He lost his way, and strayed on the partially frozen lake of Seeg. The ice broke beneath him. and, he sank into the water. He tried to regain his footling, but the ice repeatedly broke. For over two hours he swam and orawled along, and at last reached a smal snow-covered island; where he spent some hours before his cries attracted attention. Planks were placed on the ice, and the half-frozen man dragged himself along them. Four times be fell into the water, and was oblged to swim and fight his way through the breaking 'co.
