_ — — STATEMENT BY MR ASQUITH. [PRBSS ASSOCIATION.] LONDON, March 19. In the House of Commons, Mr Aequith, in reply to Colonel Vincent, said there were many causes comtoib-uting to the decline of Government stocks and other high-class securities. These were international in operation. He instanced the necessity of replacing the capital destroyed by the Sam Francisco earthquake and other disasters. The best remedy, so far as the Government's influence was concerned, was to tedsoce' expenditure, strengthen the sinking fund, and avoid borrowing for" current expenditure.
