THE EXHIBITION AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
The following is a <vpy of a letter sent by Mr C. E. Major, M.H.R., to the Hon. fche Acting-Premier. The suggestion doe* not seem an unreasonabl© one, especially as^the precedent has been established : — "Dtear Sir, — I have been approached by the headmaster of the Hawera public school regarding the opportunities of obtaining from exhibitors at the Exhibition articles of use for scholastic purposes. A gift of the same for the various schjofols in the colony, especially central country scheools such as the Hawera District High School, would be of much benefit and much, appreciated. This school is particularly fitted fbr the reception and exhibition of any articles that would be of eduoatioiial valute for the reason that the main hall is 60ft by 30ft and well lit by a skylight. After the Melbourne Exhibition this present proposal was carried into effect by very many of the exhibitors there, who held the view that they were presenting gifts that wfould be appreciated, and at the same time they were perpetuating the names of the donors and of the countries the articles came irom. I strongly recommend this proposal for your favorable ckmsideration."
