CHAMPIONSHIP BELT.
WON BY ARTHUR BALLINGER.
TRENTHAM, March 6.
During the afternoon the Championship was decided. Arthur Ballinger, of Wellington, who had a lead of six points as they went down for the final stage, maintained his advantage, and now he holds the Belt as his^private- property.
In 1872 the late Captain Walls, of Dunedin, won the Belt outright; first scoring a win at Napier and following this up with a victory at Auckland in the following year.
Following is the result of the Championship :—: — A. Ballinger, Petcne 461 Duncan, Denniston 455 Drummond, Danevirke , 451 Mills, Dunedin .!. ... ... 447 Hadtield, Blenheim ... 446 Cooper, Palmerston North, 446 W> Ballinger, Petonfe. 446 Breingaii, Gisborne*.' 440 Came-ron, Opaki .• 445 Mosilieim, Eaeo '....' 445 Marenzi, Ekctahuna 445 Perrin, Linton 444 King, Opaki 444 Wilkie, Upper Hutt 444 Drummond, Cameron and Breignan tied for the Rifle Challenge Cup, which goes to the highest scoKer in this stage, and in tihe fire off Drummond won.
The Hon. Hall-Jones congratulated the winners, and said New Zealand would be represented in a match against the Englishmen and Australia.
