A SERIOUS FIRE.

BIG FELLMONGERY DESTROYED.

[PRESS ASSOCIATION."]

CHRISTCHURCH, March 6

A serious fire broke out at the Belfast freezing wox'ks this evening, and the flames, fanned by a strong north-mst wind, threatened to destroy the whole of the works. Several of the fire brigade engines from Christchurch have gone out to attempt to check the conflagration.

The fire was confined to the fellmongery and the wool store, the wind dropping just as the flames were approaching the main building. The fellmongery was valued "at £6000.

Thie fire was subdued by 10.30 p.m

Both the fellrnongery and wool stores were totally destroyed, but the manager of the company could give no estimate of loss to-night. The fire will not interfere wiife killing operations at the works^ The f elhnongery was burned down exactly eight years ago to-night, and the present building was the one erected after that fire.
