LONDON BUTTER AND CHEESE MARKET.

Messrs E. Griffiths and Co., dairy produce exporters, New Plymouth, are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated 25th January, 1907 :— "Buyers are rather beaten this week, and the downward course has been stayed. Weather is cold and snow has fallen in some districts. This will have the effect of throwing a large number of men out of employment, all building operations being stopped. The consumption is, however, good, and the absence of any Canadian' or American is now making itself felt.

"Danish. — Market has soon righted itself. The four kroner drop mentioned/ last week upset everybody, but orders have been coming in freely, and the* market is now decidedly firm at the reduction.

"French.— The quantity coming forward is very small. The exceptionally high prices demanded a short time back drove buyers off, and many are using Australian unsalted instead. Fourth quality fresh (unaaltcd) rolls have been reduced 6d-per dozen.

. "Australian. — Arrivals this week have been very heavy, but the drop Which buy-* ers were working for and which many anticipated has not taken place Demand is' good and the bulk of the butter is going straight away into consumption, all wellknown brands finding ready sale- at top market quotations. Buyers axe still very critical as to quality, particularly on unsalted, which -has been in too plentiful supply.

"New Zealand. — Quality continues to please and arrivals are clearing at quotations. There is no accumulation, these butters, the same a» Australian, going into consumption promptly. This makes the future all the more healthy.

"Argentine. — Selling fairly well, but no* quite in so good request the past week as Australian and New Zealand.

"Cheese. — Both Canadian and New Zealand have been in good request, and buyers have shown more interest."
