(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on Monday night, Mr J. Fretney presiding. The headmaster's 1 Report included the following: — "The average attendance for fcne last five weeks Baaice the school was opened aiteT the uhris-tmas vacation was 102.8, on an average roll of 121. The average for tine, last week was 108.7, with present roll 120."

Resolved, That the Secretary again widte to the Education Board' and Mr Dixon, member of the Board, pointing out that the present school building is fax too small to accommodate the ch&Uken and asking that the 6CIIOOI be enlarged 1 at once.

Hegarding the crowding of the school, the headmaster pointed out that he had to have extra desks put in, with the .result that there was /now not enough floor space for person® to pass each other. The sawmilleisi in. this district are extremely busy just now, which means that i the buiMing taiade is bra'sk. 1 hear that a number of local farmers axe installing milking machines for the season.

Ittie all-absorbing topic here at present is the forthcoming Horticultural Show, which wall be held at the Athenaeum Hall to-morrow (Thursday). Givien fine weather this function ought to draw a large attendance. The committee have worked

hard and have made complete amrange-

ments. Music will be discoursed during I the evening by the Kaponga Bra* Band. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Kaponga Lodge was held at the Oddlellows' Hall on Monday night, G.M. Bro. A. Melvile presiding. .One new member was initiated. Receipts fox the evening wene £3 2s 6d. It was resolved that the delegates attending tihe coniferein.ee to be held at Kaponga on Thursday next be entertaaned at the Coffee Palace, P.G. Bro. Oliver and P.S. Bro. EocJeston were appointed to amraimge same. G.M. Bro. MedvilLe and P.G.^Bro. Oliver were appointed delegates from'U'bis lodge to attend the conference.

I believe a< meeting of the Kaponga Dairy, Company'si shareholders is to be

held next week for the purpose of deciding whether butter or cheese will be manufactured next season. At the School Committee meeting on Monday night the members voiced their displeasure- at 'the treatment received 1 from the Wanganui Educa.fcion Board regarding the housing facilities at the local school.

Let us hope that the Board will do something practical instead of dwarfing the physical portion of the pupils by crampting them up in a building which was built to accommodate about half the present number of children on the roll. The Board seem to think nothing about the health of the Kaponga pupils.
