The Nativ« Land Court is sitting in Hawera to-day, and many natives are about town in consequence. An inquest is to be held this evening concerning tho accidental death of Patrick McCarty, which occurred at the Hawera railway station this morning. lac weather has. recently been very hot in Hawera. On several occasions lately it has been about 80 in the shade, and it again touched that point at 2 o'clock today. Mr Turnbull, S.M., returned to Hawera to-day after ft holiday spent in/ Hawke's Bay. The weather in Napier has been oppressively hot during the Christmas and New Year tame. We. have received a complaint from a resident in Hawera of ill-manners displayed by boys and youths in the streets. In some cases it is said this has amounted to positive insult to passers-by. An interview with the court would probably produce some improvement. it is understood that Mr C. E. Gibson has tendered his resignation as secretary of the Normanby Dairy" Factory Company. He has been associated with it from the outset. A reminder is given that Mr Wilson, from Borneo, will lecture this evening at 7.30 o'clock in the Gospel Hall,- Princes street, on missionary work in the East. All are invited. The annual regatta at Waitara is to be held on February 6th. This is the one event of its kind in Taranaki, and people wuo wish for a pleasant day of genuine sport should put a mark in their dairies against February 6 as a fixture to be attended. . j By the last English mail (says the New Zealand Times) the Hon. The Minister of Education, in replying, humorously regretted' to hear that hie father was shirking work at his time ! of life !
