EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST.

SYDNEY, July 20.

At the inquest on the O'Keefes. a boy companion of Brown's deposed that three wpeks ago Brown asked him to go with him (Brown) to sandbag the O'Keefes. Brown explained to him that "sand-bag-ging" meant to hit to render insensible. Witness refused lo go, and later in the day Brown asked him to go bush-ranging, adding that he knew some others who woidd go.

A man with whom Brown camped gav< evidence that the day before the tragedy his uniform and bayonet were taken out of the Shut by Brown, .vithout permission. He identified his bayonet as that with which the murder was committed.

Tim O'Keefe stated that sometimes his father reprimanded Brown for neglecting his work, but generally they got on well together. Shortly before he left their employ Brown quarrelled with Gillick, who knocked him down. Brown got a revolver and attempted to shoot Gillick. Ones Brown broke open a box belonging to witness' father and stole money, for which he was sentenced to six months. Subsequently Brown returned to work for them.
