An angry scene occurred in the Assembly during -which Mr Solly characterised Mr Bent's administration as the most corrupt Victoria, had ever had. Mr Solly was ordered to Tetire from the Chamber, and when allowed to return to ■withdraw the remark alleged that it was made to him by a supporter of the Government.

During the excitement Mr Bennett denominated Mr Bent as a "scandalous old» rascal." He subsequently withdrew the remark, but asked for a Royal Commission to enquire into the purchase of the Chirnside estate as corruption was whispered.
