A HEAVY GALE.

After seventeen days' almost continuous rain and wind the climax was reached yesterday in a violent gale, which had the effect of seriously shaking all vegeta-. tion and bringing down some trees and feiices. No casualties have been reported, but Mr S. Kelly, mail-carrier, had a narrow ©scape. He was riding through the Tirinioana Gorge when a 'great gust of wind and rain cam© on. A branch of considerable- size fell from a tree overLead, striking the horse a blow on the head which stunned it. How the rider came off the horse without getting a scratch he himself does not know. About midday the wind blew so fiercely that much damage was threatened. In the evening th© storm became intermittent and finally ceased, this morning breaking into a comparatively beautiful day.
