TARANAKI ROADS.

THE PREMIER INTERVIEWED.

WELLINGTON, July §. ' The Premier was interviewed to-day by the member for Egmont, Mr W. T. Jennings, with reference to road and railway matters in that part of Taranaki. The Premier anticipated that with fine weather road work would be pushed on this year much more than last summer, when bad weather hindered the anticipated operations. With regard to the Stratford- Ongauire (via, Whangamomona) line, the Premier said he intended to have a survey made of the northern portion as soon as a, man was available. At the same time the Premier intimated that tho North Is land Main Trunk Line must be pushed on as rapidly as possible. Mr Jennings also saw the Minister for Native Affairs (the Hon. Jas. Carroll* as to the position of surplus native lands between Mungaroa (in the Ohura Valley) and Ons»aru&, and was informed that the Commissioner of Crown Lands for Tara-r-aki is having a survey made to ascertain what lands are suitable for settlement.
