FRENCH CRUISER INFLICTS PUNISHMENT.

SYDNEY, July 9. H.M.S. Prometheus has returned from her. lsland cruise. News was received of the massacre of the crew of a French cruiser at the HebrideSj but no details were obtained. She also reports that the French cruiser Vaucluse visited the- west coast of Mallicolo to aver.ge the murder of the crew of the cutter Lily, which occurred last year. The natives made themselves scarce, and the cruiser destroyed the village and a numter of pigs.
