Although the figures for the financial year of the Bank of New Zealand are not published, it is understood that the, insti tution has ,had a most successful year. Thfo amounts of the bank's profits have been growing each year, and it is alleged that the present year's surpluses will be larger than ever and constitute a. record in She bank's history. A portion of the success was due to the itieatisaifcion of certain of its inferior assets, which have been turned into liquid •mad consequently a money-earning state, but apart from this the volume of business has increased to such an extent as to justify the unqualified congratulations of the directorate.
