James Oraze lived with 'his wife in a Ifljtle 6ix-roomed cottage at 107, Llan-road. He began to hear noises as he lay in bed ait might); raps at the door and on the walls; and one night the bed in which he and his wife lay shook violently. He went to a house in Eenghenydd, but the inoise followed' him. So one night the police of the district iff charge of PoliceSergeant Evans, together with Mr Lloyd. Rees, the vim.-, went to the house and carried out some experiments. The man was taken into three rooms and each time tohree distinct loud raps are said to have been heard. The rappings ■have been da&tincily (heard by 'the Rev. G. Rees, Mr D. Lewis, and two constables. When in the kitchen Mr Lewis sat on a chair, with Craze on his lap, his arms and legs being pinned; still the sounds were heard, and Mr Lewis felt Crab© fainting away. Three distinct raps underneath the chair w«re 'heard. Two days later he received a letter from a professing spiritualist, at Cardiff; it was evidently a joking message, but it influenced him strongly. The letter began i thus : — "Dear Sir, — Having read the article, I at once communicated with our secretary of the spirit worid. He has informed me that on& spirit which has visited yom at your- residence at Aber is a man named Jjcxxs, who was a blacksmith, and lived at AberfcridwT in t»he year 1864. He has now come back, and has seen some bottles of Bass in youo- house, which he has been sampling." On receipt of this extraordinary communication Craze plucked up courage and boldly went to the haunted house, and T6* moved some empty bottles. — Daily Mail.
