SAD SHOOTING FATALITY DEER STALKER'S DEPLORABLE MISTAKE. SHOOTS A COMPANION DEAD [PRESS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON, April 10. 'i News has been received by the police' of a deplorable shooting affair took' 1 place early this morning at Pirinoa, nea<r Martinboroughj'in the Wah-arapa. On Saturday morning Albert Stubbs, employed in the Railway Department at' Christchurch, and James Evans, employed 1 in Ro*s and Glendinning's warehouse at Christchurch, arrived from the south and, proceeded to Martinborough to meet a young mannamed F. H. Hawke, the three having arranged a deer-stalking expedition From the meagre details available, it appears Ihat they were thi3 morning pursuing a stag in company. The animal bounded into some scrub, and Stubbs also went into the trees. Hawke, who was l some distance away, just saw the top oli his head Thinking that Stubbs' head was, part of tho stag, Hawke fired, killing his, companion. Stubbs was a son of Mr Anthony Stubbs, insoectov of the permanent way at Wanganui. He was a member of the Sixth' Contingent in South Africa
