WHAKAMARA.

(From a Correspondent.)

A plain and fancy dres ball In aid of the piano fund was held in the Whakamarar Hall on Friday, and was an unqualified success. The weather was perfect. The hall was very pjrett^y decorated for the occasion witfi. nikau and bush flowers. The music was provided by Mi6s George -and was voted excellent, the extras being played by Miss Hjcks and Mr P. Tarrant. The catering was in the hands of Mr Cullinan, of Hawera, who left nothing to be deeiTed. The fancy dresses weire numerous and pretty. Amongst them I noticed Miss Bloomfield as "Folly" ; Miss Lane, "Ivy"; Miss Orfcridge, "Spandeh Girl ; Miss F. Williams, "Nancy Lee"; Miss I. Anthony, "80-Peep" .(another quaint and pretty costume) ; Miss R. Williams "Pierette"; Miss McSweeuey, "Night"; Miss C Ortridge "Sumrays" ; j Miss K. Anthony "Tipsy" and M. Bloom- ■ field, "Red, White, and Blue." The most conspicuous amongst the gents were Mr W. Holmes "Jockey" and Mrs A. WTagley "Fireman." Messrs A. Allen and F. E. 'Worsley acted as M.C.'s, and kept things moving merrily, dancing being indulged im toll cow-time. This, the openling ball of the 1906 season, was voted one of the most enjoyable functions ever held in the hall.
