TO Stand in Hawera and Surrounding District, JSfe^ The Imported Thoroughy*\l OBLIGADO. , |^^^H|PBY ORVILLE— FLIRT. 1 1 (Imported from England by Q. G. Stead I and P. Campbell). When Messrs G. G. Stead and P. Campbell imported Obligado, it was generally admitted that they had secured one of the j finest bred horses that ever came to these j colonies. As a two-year-old the eon of OrvilJe was highly thought of, and gave promise of Jao mean order. Unfortunately an accident to one of his legs pre- ! vented his being strongly trained oth&r- | wise there is no doubt he would have , made a name for himself on the Turf. In his only attempt in public he ran second to Scottish Minstrel at Riccarton when only half fit, showing a Tare turn of speed. In appearance Obligado is an ideal stallion. He has plenty of size and substance, with nicely rounded frame and beautiful quarters. Such a horse should take well anywhere, for hiß breeding iB of the best, and his fine proportions should be well suited to both thoroughbred and ball-bred mares. Obligado's pedigree reads as follows : — I |_ _ fatookwell 3 » Donoaster 6 Marigold I o Bend Or 1 — a -a Rouge Rose Tfaornmanby 11 i 1 } g Elian Home , I 3|g Macaroni 14 Sweatmeat 21 '■ j a o Lily Agnes Jocose t H Polly Agnes Cure 16 w Miss Agneß . | „ . Sir Heroules 2 £ Miss Agnes oatcher 11 Gu ' ooiolt Xenon Pantaloon 17 j I | Agneß Black Agnes : A glance at this will thow how fashionably bred Obligado is. Orville, his sine, ' is a son of the unbeaten Ormonde, who ! claims amongst hit many victories both ' the Derby and St. Leger. Another descendant of the Band Or horse is Flying Fox, one of the greatest racehorses of mod- ■ crn days. Orville'i dam, Shotover, was j also a great performed, and a winner of ! I the Derby and Two Thousand Guineas, i Flirt, the dam of Obligado, wu got by ' Trappist, a brilliant hone who won the Steward *8 Cup at Goodwood, and whose sire was the famous Derby winner Hermit. Frivolity, by Macaroni, from Misa Agnes is a full sister to Lady Agnes, the dam of Ormonde. From this it will be seen that only thwe removes back in his pedigree Obligado claims six Derby win- ' ners, together with a double strain of the i great Hermit and Miss Agnet families. : With such running blood as this in hi» ! veins, it will be surprising if Obligado does not beget not only speedy ones but also ' genuine stayers. ' Obligado was fiTst and champion at Dun- ' edin aud Oamaru the last three yesrt, and I also beat Dick Hammerhand, champion j at Melbourne.
