Stud Notices. j TO Stand in Hawera and Surrounding f District, j j£^^ The Imported ThoroughV*Xf OBLIGADO. CJMPf^Jff V ORVILLE— FLIRT. (Imported from England by G. G. Stead and P. Campbell). i When Messrs G. G. Stead and P. Camp- ■ bell imported Obligado, it was generally ; admitted that they had secured one of the finest bred horses that ever came to these colonies. As a two-year-old the eon of Orville was highly thought of, and gave promise of no mean order. Unfortunately an aocidejit to one of his legs prevented his being strongly trained otherwise there is no doubt he would have made a name for himself on the Turf. In his only attempt in public he ran e&cond to Scottish Minstrel at Riccarton when only half fit, showing a rare turn of speed. In appearance Obligado is an ideal stajlion. He has plenty of eire and substance, with nicely rounded frame and beautiful quarters. Such a Jionse should take well anywhere, for his breeding is of the best, and his fine proportions should be well suited to both thoroughbred and half-bred mares. Obligado's pedigree reads ac follows :—: — Flirt.', Frivolity j Trappist i S a a g' • s I , I- 1 >!**£• era P -„ s| I-g, EE =E !<f U H ii >s If *II I' if P |l J-l ■° M X §, i * 1 Orville 13. X 11 — • , , I !_ A glance at this will show how fashionably bred Obligado is. , OrviLle, his sire, is a son of the unbeaten Ormonde, who claims amongst his many victories both the Derby and St. Leger. Another descendant of the Bend Or horse is Flying Fox, one of the greatest racehorses of modern days. Orville's dam, Shotover, was also a great performed, and a winner of the Derby and Two Thousand Guineas. Flirt, the dam of Obligado, was got by Trappist, a brilliant horse who won the Steward's Cup at Goodwood, and whose sire was the famous Derby winner Hermit. Frivolity, by Macaroni, from Miss Agnes is a full sister to Lady Agnes, the dam of Ormonde. From this it will be seen that only three removes back in his pedigree Obligado claims six Derby winners, togetEef with a double strain of the great Hermit and Miss Agnes families. With such running blood as, this in his veins, it will be surprising if Obligado does not beget not only speedy ones but also genuine stayers. Obligado was first and champion at Dunedin and Oamaru the last three years, and also beat Dick Haonmerhand, champion at Melbourne. Terms : Thoroughbred mares, 6 guineas ; half-bred mares, 4 guineas.
