(From Our Own Correspondent.) , The examination of the local school has beet completed. A pupil at the local school, Annie Phillips has passed exceedingly well in the examinationo! candidates for pupilteach«n .ps, n being at the head <ol the list of those from the Hawera dutnet, tod second only for the whole Wanganui educational district. This van achieve, mtnt of which both pupil and teacher (Mr Btfchler) may well be proud. The recenl vUit of 3111 Sykes and Co. has given out' little township quite an air of importance, and has provided an ■nfaUing topic of conversation. .. Still we dd not hanker after a return visit and are shaking hands with .ourselves that the proceeds 'from the basaar were riot included in the "haul." The visits of these gentlemen are HSe Scotch «nuff— you get one riinch. and that's enough. A meeting of the Ball Committee was held on Tuesday evening to receive report of recent basaar. There were Several account* which had not come to hand,- but When evewjhing is finally settied it is estifflftted that the net r esults wm be about #»>. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to the ladies tor th« able manner in which they had carri.tf out the arrangements, and to Messrs R, Johnstono, W. Roe*, T. Ross, J. Neuli, and Bew for valuable assistance rendered. Mr It. Johmtone was elected a mwnber of tho Hall Committee. Th» Annual school picnic takes place on Wednoaday next at the Te Ngutn Domaui.
