It was decided that Dr Sidey should continue as clerk and treasurer for another year, and a committee was set up to enquire into the arranging and control j of the Assembly's finances and report at j next year's meeting of Assembly. j The temperance report was adopted. The j report stated that on the whole there was in the Presbyterian Church a solid and growing purpose to work for, and to give no - license a reasonable chance ' of proving its effectiveness as a remedy for the known evils of drunkenness before touching a system (of State control) that was wholly untried in the colony, and that has no prospect of commending the approval of an adequate number to give v legislative effect to it.
