OYAMA'S CAUTIOUS POLICY.
HE WILL NOT CHANCE RECAPTURE.
(Received October 3, 0.58 p.m.) LONDON, October 3. Thousands of coolies are employed completing the fortifications northwards of Liaoyang, as a precaution against any ultimate attack. Thnre are other evidences that Field-Marshal Oyama is thoroughly securing the conquered positions before resuming the general advance. Several Japanese detachments are in the mountains eastward of Tiehling. (Received October 4, 0.5 a.m.) LONDON, October 3. The Times' correspondent, lately with General Kuroki's headquarters staff, hue returned to Tokio. He reports that the Russians have two divisions on the Hun Ho, and four at Mukden, the remainder of their troops being at Tiehling, which they ■re extensively fortifying. Field-Marshal Oyama's armies are 20 miles northwards of Liaoyang, in their original order. The bridging of the Taitse is completed, and troops and artillery are across.

(Received October 3, 0.54 p.m.) LONDON, October 3. Reuter's Tokio correspondent says the indications point to the next engagement being at Tiehling. General Kuropatkin (s holding the Hun Ho, but this is only temporarily, in order to check the Japanese advance.
The first Japanese train has brought to Liaoyang quantities of ammunition and telegraph and railway supplies. General Kuropatkin, at Tiehling, welcoming the arrival of reinforcements, ordered tho immediate removal of all women and children. >
FATAL TRAIN COLLISION.
" (Received October 4, 8.54 a.m.) LONDON, October 3. AlexieffS train, in escaping to Harbin after the fall of Liaoyang, collided with an ambulance train, killing forty wounded soldiers.
THE JAPANESE POSITION.
LONDON, October 3. ' Kuroki's vanguard is at Fang-kiapu village, on the Mukden tide of Tungkifang Pass, fifteen miles south-east of Mukden. Other columns are descending the western slopes of Tling range, on the extreme right wing, menacing Mukden considerably to the eastward.

The Daily Telegraph's Siminating correspondent says one theory is that Oyama is awaking the fall of Port Arthur and reinforcements, and another is that he is keeping the tw»ops at Yentai quiescent while secretjy attempting to outflank General- Rwopatkin's left.
