AGENT-GENERAL'S CABLE.

The Department of industries and Com merco has received the following cable gram from the Agent -General, dated Lon don, Ist: — There has been a hotter tone in the mut ton market this week. Average fine Can terbury mutton, 4id light weights, and 4i heavy weights. Dunedin, Southland ant W.ftl.E. Co. mutton, 4Jd nominal; othei North Island mutton, 4d, firm. There is no alteration in the lamb mar ket> since last week. The beef market is depressed, owing to large supplies coming forward. Average price to-day hindquarters, New Zealand beef, 3£d; forequarters, 2£d nominal. The butter market is steady. Average price for choicest New' Zealand butter (stored) 99s per cwt. New make Australian to-day is quoted at 112s; Danish, 120s.

No alteration in the checoe market since last week.

Hemp. — The market is firm, and good business has beep done for October shipments. The price of New Zealand hemp good to fair Wellington grade on Bpot topay per ton is £30, and for Manila hemp fair current grade on spot £37. No alteration in the cocksfoot seed market since last week.
