NAVAL BATTLE BELIEVED TO BE

(Received September 28. 11.46 p.m.) LONDON, September 28. Firing was heard at Saghalien, off Aniva. It is believed a naval battle is in progress. [Cape Aniva is the south-eastern horn of Saghalien Island, and is about 900 miles north-east of Vladivostok. It forms one of the northern boundaries of La Perouse Strait, north of the Japanese island of Yew>.]
