WELLINGTON, September 26. the Department of Industries and Commorce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-Ueneral, dated London, 24th:— ' Mutton.— The market is quiet and there is still a scarcity of prime quality. Average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4idj for light weights, 4d. For heavy weights the average price to-day, of other brands North Island mutton, is 3Jd. River plate 3|d. Tho demand for lambs has fallen off considerably. Supplies of home-grown lamb are, 1 heavy,, and are lowering pricea. New Zealandr-frown lamb, average price today, Canterbury brands," SJd; brands, other than Canterbury, 6jd. There is a better demand for beef. New Zealand beef is still being held for a rise in prices. Quotations are normal. The average price for hindquarters New Zealand beef to-day is 4d ; forequarters/2|d. Butter. — There is a good demand for choicest qualify batter, and the market •is firm. Average price to-day: Choicest New Zealand butter (stored), 99s per cwt ; new make, Australian, 109s ; Danish 1225. Cheese. — The market is steady. Average price finest New Zealand cheese, 43s per cwt. Hemp. — The market is firm. October to December shipments, good to fair Wellington grade, are quoted at £29 10s per ton., Cocksfoot seed.— The market is. quiet. Average price bright clear New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171bs per bushel, on spot to-day, is o2s per cwt. . The wool market is active with good demand.
