JAPANESE AND THE COMMONWEALTH.

[paiSS ASSOCIATION.] (Received September 26, 9.44 a.m.) SIDNEY, September 26. As a result of representations by the Government Agent in the Far East that the immigration restriction laws debarred Japanese merchants from visiting Australia, and nullified the efforts to promote trade, the Federal Government have decided that bona fide Japanese merchants, students, and tourists, provided with properly vised passports, will be allowed to freely enter and travel through the Commonwealth. The passports are to be good for 12 months, and if the holders desire a longer stay they must obtain exemption.
