The .Right. Hon..; A. Alters Douglas, speaking at- Shoreditch, said that during a decade the British imports had increased 657 millions, or 16^ per cent. Bxports had increased 113 millions, or 4 4-5 Per cent. Imports of manufactured and partly manufactured goods had increased^ 37 per cent, and exports of manufactures had increased under one-half per cent. Tumblers costing eighteenpeuce to produce in-America were being sold in ♦England at a shilling, beating British manufactures in both markets, though British tumblers cost only fourteenpence. Dumping was seriously affecting the furniture and cabinetmaking trade, as foreign sweated labor was under-selling British workers. The dumping ot undesirable aliens was J a growing evil, and he foreshadowed stringent legislative measureV'to de,al therewith.
