STEAM SERVICES.

Received June 9, 9.30 a.m. OTTAWA, Jnuo 8.

In* March last, the Canadian Government invited tenders for B.hish-owmd Atlantic Bteuiutr service?, vessels eighteen to twenty knot speed. One of the conditions was that the vessels ehould not call at any fortign port. Only two tenders have been received — one from the Dominion Line, ihe other from the Allan Line. Trie Dominion Line tendem for a fortnightly twenty-one knot service, alternating with a sixteen knot service, and asks for a subsidy of two hundred thousand pounds per annum, with sea postal freights. The Allan line has tendered for • similar service, and has asked a throo hundred thousand pounds subsidy. The Canadian Pacific Roil way Company hns declined a tender, preferring an all year round service of twenty koo'.s. There is a strong feeling in Canad* against accepting any service controlled by (he Pierpont Morgan syndicate. It is understood th« Ottawa Government will not accept (•ither tender ' owing to ibo stipulated restrictions.
