Middleton, handing for submission to the Council a dedication by Mr G. W. Tayler of " a strip of land " required by section 20 of the Public Works Act Amendment Act, 1900, to be so dedicated. He pointed out that a proviso is made, by subsection 5 of the above section, enabling the Council "to cloee such road or 1 Btreet if satisfied that the road or street so dedicated is not required for the purpose for which it was dedicated." As a matter of fact, that strip of land dedii cated will never be required for such , 1 purpose as to make it of any practical utility, and would imply the removal of the Town Hall, Bank of N.S.W., and other buildings, besides the acquisition of other similar strips of land from owners having frontages abutting on Railway street. Under the circumstances, he submitted that this was preeminently a case in which a " special order " should be made, so as to save his client the utterly useless expense of forming and metalling within subsection 3. Referred to Works Committee, with power to take legal opinion on the matter. The Mayor resumed the chair. FOREMAN OF WORKS* REPORT. Foreman reported on various works completed. Adopted.
