Received August 20, 11.85 a.m.
Paris, August 19. In connection with the religious troubles in France, the, populace barricaded the school at Plouharnel, and deluged tbe gendarmeß and soldiers with mud and stones. The troops used scaling ladders, but the defenders threw burning faggdts and trusses of straw, compelling the- soldiers to twice retreat. Eventually tbe defenders capitulated at nightfall, upon the advice of members of the Senate and the local Council.
Another serious conflict occurred at Saint Meen between gendarmes armed with swords and peasants with cudgels and stones. Twenty-seven were injured.
