Timaru, August 16. A middle-aged man named Miller, a carpenter on the* railway, has been missing for three weeks, and a search has been unavailing, It is supposed he was drowned.

Wellington, August 17. The body of Thomas Daniels, a labourer, 45 years of age, was found in the Pirie-atreet reserve last evening with a bullet hole in the head, and a revolver grasped in the right hand. Deceased left bis home on Friday in a despondent frame of mind, remarking to his wife that if he could not get work, he would do away with himself.

Wellington, August 18. In the case of Thomas Daniel, who committed suicide owing to scarcity of work, tbe Coroner's jury returned a verdict of suicide while in a state of unsound mind.

A report has been reoeived by the police that several Maoris living in a house at Te Whiti, near Masterton, lighted wood in an old tin can to warm their room, and retired to rest, and that in the morning two of their number were found dead, suffocated with the fumes, and two were dragged out unconscious.
