CRICKET.

The proposed match to- morrow between New Plymouth Rovers and Hawera has been abandoned.

It is stated that the Government will not renew the liquor lioenses for railway refreshment rooms at the expiry of the existing engagements.

| At the Police Court to-day, before Mr M. J. O'Donnell, J.P., Yee Lee, a Chinese fruiterer, was charged with having, on March 11th, sold unsound fruit, viz., 1 doz bananas. Defendant pleaded not guilty, and seemed to be under the impression that as the fruit was " welly cheap " — 2d per doz — it was not to be expected that it would be all perfectly sound. After hearing the evidenoe of the Inspector of Nuisances, Mr Howard, who stated he had previously warned either the defendant or his employer against the practice, the Benoh inflicted a fine of 20s and costs, and cautioned the defendant against a repetition of the offence.

The Taranaki Eduoation Board hat deoided to give lady teaohers volunteering for servioe in the concentration camps in South Afrioa 12 months' leave of absence and keep their positions open for them.

At New Plymouth Police Court, an Inglewood settler was charged with failing to keep down ra :\vort. a penalty of Is will be inflicted if defendant outs down the weeds, if not a more substantial fine will be inflicted.

Rhoderiok McDonald, on charges of escaping from New Plymouth gaol and theft was committed for trial.

In the case Annie 8. Minhinnick v. James Minblnniok a separation order was granted by consent, the plaincifi to have the oustody of the children.
