MANUAL AND TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION.
An Order-in-Couneii on the 14th confirmed the revised regulations under the Manual and Technical Instruction Aot. Vocal maeio, which must include Hinging from notes and the elements of the theory of music, has keen added to the subjects for continuation olasses. Clauee 45 reads as follows :—": — " Instruction in subjects connected with commercial pursuits, in order to
be deemed ' technical instruction,' must include three or more of the following subjects, one at least of which must be taken from division (a): (a)—(l) Book-keeping (including commercial technology), (2) shorthand, (8) commercial law, (4) industrial law, (5) economics lof industry, (6) chemistry, . treated practically, with imI mediate reference to commerce or manufactures, (b) — (1) Typewriting, (2) correpocdanee arid precis writing, (3) commercial or actuarial arithmetic, (4) commercial history, (5) industrial history, (6) commercial geography, {7) other similar subjects." An alteration in regard to grants in aid is made by clause 59, which reads: — " The maximum grants which may be made in aid of buildings, eto., are— (l) For school and special elapses estab'ished by a Board of Education, and for associated classes in which a Board of Education is the controlling authority, the full cost ; (2) for all other classes, £L for each £1 contributed."
