A wire was received on Saturday that Sir J. Ward would arrive here on Wednesday morning, but that he could not stay overnight. He is coming to open the new post office and court house, and transaot any other public business that may be brought before him . The reception committee have arranged to entertain the visitors at dinner at about two o'clock. Tbe town will be decorated, and the band will be in. attendance. As it is the half holiday, a large number of people are expected to assist at the opening ceremony.

Mr O'Meara returned last week, after his trip North and to the Lake districts. He reports having had a real good time.

Mr C. Allen, of the local Bank of New Zealand, left last week for Auckland, whither he has been advanced. He made many friends here, who wish him prosperity. Mr Hirst, of Hawera, is to replace him here.

Father Ainsworth opened a short mission here on Sunday, and will continue till Wednesday. Being a very powerful speaker, he is sure to have large attendances.
